The Shield The shield is from Kenya and belongs to Ngugi wa Thiong'o. A shield both protects its bearer from the spears and arrows of outrageous fortune, and announces the affiliations of the person carrying it. Shields form a substratum in the prehistory of logos and brands by fashioning, presenting, and sheltering the identities of those who wield them. |

The Elephants The elephant is the personal animal of Ngugi wa Thiong'o. These elephants are from a batiked fabric made in Zimbabwe from traditional designs, retooled for contemporary use. Fabrics are available from the African Fabric Shop. |
